  • 1950s – Economic miracle: the Green Revolution driven by chemical pesticides and seed breeding
  • 1962 – Silent Spring by Rachel Carson – awareness of devastating effect of pesticides on nature and start of Environmental and Ecological movements
  • 1970s – Club of Rome environmental movement and criticism of consumerism – awareness of the finite natural resources
  • 1991 – first EU organic regulation
  • 2000 – EU organic seal is implemented
  • 2002 – 5.6 million ha of organic land in the EU
  • 2007 – Second EU Organic Regulation
  • 2010 – 9 million ha of organic land and € 19.6 billion turnover in the EU
